By now, you’ve most likely heard about Jonathan Franzen’s new novel Freedom. Whether it’s from friend recommendations, reviews, best-of-the-year lists, or even Oprah the buzz has been pretty hard to escape.While I missed out on The Corrections, Franzen’s last mega-bestseller (I plan to go back to it soon), Freedom is one of the best novels I’ve read in years. There are few writers who can create so many characters who are at once despicable, wonderful, terrible, ignorant, brilliant and utterly sympathetic. In short, they’re just like most real people you know. Plus the fast-moving plot makes this long book go by in a flash.
Freedom is a literary page-turner of the first degree.
