I follow a slew of publishing professionals and authors on Twitter and over the last two weeks Emma Donoghue’s novel has been all the rage with them. Having just about finished it, I’ll offer up my own re-tweet here; Room is dramatically compelling and, while the year’s not over, I imagine this book will hold a high place in my Greatest Reads of 2010.

The story is a profound take on innocence versus experience and is told from 5 year old Jack’s point of view, who — along with his mother — has been imprisoned in a tiny “room” for his entire life.
Very few authors have the chops to pull off the earnest authenticity of a child’s voice, but, like McCarthy’s The Road or Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, Donoghue has created a character who will continue to converse with you long after you’ve finished her book.
